When I created bloggingmidlife.com, I knew that if I was going to write about my life, I needed to be honest and vulnerable. It’s been more than ten years since I started. During that time, I’ve raised my children, lived through a global pandemic, and moved to another country.
And through all of those transitions, I was scared.
Last week, I published a small guide on Amazon called Beginning Again: Finding Yourself Through Life’s Transitions. It incorporates some of the lessons I’ve learned about starting over and figuring out what comes next.
And ever since I published it, doubt has plagued me.
Will anyone read it? Is it trash? Why didn’t I make it longer? Why did I bother?
But I know why I bothered.
Publishing Beginning Again was an experiment for something even more terrifying.
What I haven’t shared with many people is that I’ve also finished a manuscript for a thriller. I’ve spent more than two years writing it, and it’s now in the revision and editing stage. As I’ve gone down the rabbit hole of publishing, I’ve learned that writing the book is only part of the challenge. Eventually, I’ll have to put it in front of agents and hope that one of them believes it’s worthy of their time and attention.
That scares me.
So this post is only going to my subscribers. Some of you have been reading my words for years. Maybe something I’ve written has positively impacted you. Maybe you’ve found some meaning in my reflections.
I’m writing to you today because I want to be brave.
Beginning Again is not just a guide to me. Publishing it represents the next step in my own life. It has forced me to confront the same questions I’ve been asking throughout midlife:
What is next for me?
Do I have the courage to begin again?
And telling you about it is my answer.
Yes.
